Training
Details of future NICEM training programmes for member groups will be given here.
During 2009 NICEM ran the first stage of training programmes under the Strategic Advocacy Programme set up under the Atlantic Philanthropies’ funding.
In August 2009 NICEM arranged for a series of Human Rights and Equality Law Trainings. These were delivered by the Human Rights Centre at Queen's University, Belfast. The first four-week training took place in Queen’s University Belfast in Summer 2009. It was subsequently ran in Omagh, Co Tyrone, in October 2009. This training gave participants the opportunity to learn more about the origins of human rights and to understand the current national and international human rights architecture.
In June 2009 NICEM held in its offices the first of six planned sessions of media training for NICEM staff and member groups. These media trainings are aimed at giving participants the confidence to relate to the media in a positive way and to learn how to deal with interviews in all settings and circumstances. The training is delivered by a highly respected media professional whose teachings have been rapidly tested by some of NICEM staff members who have been applying the acquired knowledge successfully in sometimes difficult interviews. Further media trainings are currently being arranged for the year 2010, in various locations in Northern Ireland to allow maximum participation of our member groups.
