Remembrance and hope for the victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami

Friday 29th of April 2011 will mark a symbolic step in the mourning period following the Japan disaster of March 2011.

In many Asian traditions, mourning lasts for 7 weeks, the first and the last week (1/7 and 7/7) being very important in the mourning process.

The 29th of April 2011 marks the 49th and last day of mourning.

To respectfully remember the victims of the disaster, a non-religious service will be held at

the Crescent Arts Centre on 29th of April from 18.30.

The commemoration ceremony will start at 19.00 and will last 30 minutes, to allow participants to meet around refreshments after 19.30pm.

The event will include an introduction by the Japanese Society NI and a moment of silence; Japanese and local people with connections with Japan will then share their experiences and feelings in relation to the disaster, and their hopes for the future.

For more information, you can contact hosting organisations, including the Japanese Society NI, NICEM and the Northern Ireland Inter-Faith Forum NI.
