Community Relations afternon in Ardnavally Scout Centre
My name is Pat Polin from the 29th Belfast Scout Group based in carryduff.
My scout group is working with another scout group based in East Belfast on a Community Relations Equality and Diversity programme which seeks to understand the cultures of minority communalities here in Northern Ireland.
We are proposing to hold a community relations afternoon at Ardnavally scout centre on 3 Feb 2013 at starting at 2.30pm and we want to invite representatives from several communities to attend and provide information regarding their culture and traditions. Each group will be provided with a table where they can set up a display stand and provide education and information regarding their respective cultures to the attending scouts. Ardnavally scout centre is situated at Milltown Shaws Bridge. Belfast
We aim to invite seven or eight local community groups and the scouts will be divided into several teams and they will spend approx 15 minutes at each table. After 15 minutes they will move to the next table until all groups have been visited.
We gage that it will take approx 1.30 hours to get around each group and the day will be concluded around 4.30pm
What to include? We really would like the community groups to decide what to bring themselves but as a general suggestion you might want to consider, an item of traditional clothing, what the country is noted for, type of industries, tourism, a flag if possible, geography religion, language (how do you say hello, thank you and goodbye) , democracy, perhaps a famous person, types of food, roughly how many in Northern Ireland and main locations.
I hope you will be able to support us in our endeavors to inform and educate our young people and bring them into contact with the traditions of your country.
Respectfully in scouting
Pat Polin & Maurice Johnston.
