NICEM Equality and Diversity Training

Our training has been established to tackle the growth of racist based attitudes and opinions, as well as to address issues of racism and prejudice in Northern Ireland.

The objectives of the anti-racism training and education is to counter racism; create self sustaining structures of anti-racism activity and cross community participation; promote inter-ethnic participation; provide awareness of the value of cultural diversity and of the dangers of social exclusion.

Understanding Equality and Diversity is a two-day course, accredited at OCN Level 2 and that aims to explore the dynamics of racism and equality on an individual and organisational level.

By the end of the course the participants should have a better understanding of the value of equality and diversity, how to identify discrimination and oppression and be equipped with the tools to challenge racism.  The training will give the participants an opportunity to examine how they interact with others from a diverse background and the opportunity to examine the organisations they are involved with and how to better ensure equality in policy and practice.

Key areas as a learner:
Better understanding of oppression, of discrimination in all its forms, of how to challenge oppression and discrimination and of how to use policy and equality laws.

This event is being organised in conjunction with Lisburn City Council's Good Relations Programme, which receives financial support from the Office First Minister Deputy First Minister.
