A Charter of Political Parties in Northern Ireland for a Non-Racist Society

In the run up to the local Assembly elections and the European Referendum, NICEM has asked of all the main political parties of Northern Ireland to affirm a new, Charter of Political Parties in Northern Ireland for a Non-Racist Society. This charter which we have asked each of the party leaders to sign, is a Charter that seeks to prevent exploitation of racial prejudice in the forthcoming and any future elections, including the forthcoming Assembly Election and the EU Referendum Vote. The purpose of the Charter is to promote democracy, freedom of expression, rule of law and human rights protection. At the same time it aims to discourage any racist campaigning and to promote the fairness and accuracy of any election material published. NICEM firmly believes that the leadership of all political parties will play a crucial role to promote race equality and fairness in our society and in particular the OFMDFM flagship policy - The Racial Equality Strategy for Northern Ireland 2015-2025. Enclosed below is a copy of the Charter sent out to each of the Party Leaders.
