Letter from First Minister and Deputy First Minister on Brexit

This translation [] may not be available or may be incomplete.

On the 6th of September 2016, NICEM received a response to the letter it sent, following its Brexit conference on the 9th of July, to the First Minister and Deputy First Minister calling on them to issue a public statement reassuring the migrant community in Northern Ireland and acknowledging their concerns.

The response from the First and Deputy First Minister (available here) acknowledged the contribution of minority ethnic communities to Northern Irish society and reaffirmed the Ministers’ commitment to the vision of the Racial Equality Strategy.

Of particular relevance, in light of recent news of an attack on a Romanian woman in County Antrim, was the Ministers’ unequivocal condemnation of all racist attacks and their affirmation that the referendum result should not be allowed to result in racism.
